Liberian women should cultivate the spirit of investing into “little businesses” which can bring hope, says the National Coordinator of the National Council of Chiefs and elders, Madam Seta Fofana Saah.

Madam Saah was speaking on Monday to a group of traditional women and adolescent girls who are by extension part of the National Council of Chiefs and Elders.

She said many Liberians term to overlook businesses which could change their lives, adding that they can help.

According to her, one business in Liberia that is overlooked by many is the cold water trade, but said this business makes money like other businesses.

She recounted a story about herself, narrating how she had sold water and palm oil for years, in order to make life easier for herself and her family.

Presenting ten thousand Liberian dollars to two of the women of the group to enable them invest in petty business, the traditional woman leader stressed the need for women to see themselves as help mates to their husbands.

“When you are empowered, you will not wait for your husband when you need little things at home. You will not Wai for him when your child is sick,” Madam Saah added.

She also told the group why she established the women of her community to form part of the traditional council.

Madam Saah said as a traditional leader, months back she observed that women of the Du-Port Cowfield community were only engaged into playing of lulu and sometimes end up with confusion.

“What I did was to organize them to form part of the National Council of chiefs and elders”

According to her, when the group took formation they decided to ensure that every Sunday each member of the group provides the amount of LD$100.

Madam Saah indicated that the said money when collected at the end of the month they give five thousand each to two members of that group to help them with invest into business.

She indicated that they are starting at a very low stage now adding that as time go bye they will improve on the amount they will give as start up for business.

She told the women who received the five thousand each as an amount for a  start-up business, she said those who are successful business personals in the world did not wait for millions but started with some little.

Madam Saah told the women that business pays a lot.

Moreover, Madam Saah on the other hand called on women who have achieved to reach out to women in their various communities as means of empowerment.

Those who women praised Madam Saah for her farsightedness to have organized them to form part of an institution that will add value to them as women.

Madam Mamie Topkah said, “we want to thank our mother for putting us together as women. We pray that this group units us.” Report by Mark N. Mengonfia –mmenginfia@gmail.com
