Following thorough screening and validation of the joint cluster of Minister of Health and Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency of former Liberian refugees, the Liberia Refugees Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) has retracted its own statistics released earlier that half of the Liberian refugees who returned home from Ghana recently were illicit drug addicts.

He was referring to the first batch of 750 Liberian refugees who returned home on May 24, 2024 from Ghana and are the CARI transit center in the central Bong County.

In a press release issued in Monrovia on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the LRRRC “regrets to inform Local, International partners and the public that the information that was provided by its Executive Director Hon. Patrick Worzie at the May 28, 2024 MICAT Press Conference was incorrect”.

The LRRRC says its Executive Director, Worzie was misinformed by the statisticians.

The screening of former Liberian refugees established that the number of returnees that are drug users is below fifty persons; seventeen women and twenty men.

The LRRRC hereby apologizes for the misinformation that was provided to the public on the percentage released at the government’s National Platform.

The LRRRC as the government leading agency responsible for repatriation reaffirms its commitment to providing the public with accurate information surrounding the repatriation process, the press release concluded.
