Man Arrested By Police For Allegedly Beating Wife To Death In Lofa County

VOINJAMA, Liberia- As domestic violence goes on the rise, Police in the northwestern Lofa County are currently investigating a 49-year-old man identify as Tamba Sammie for allegedly beating his wife, Kumba Sammie to death in Foya district on Tuesday.

According to police, the incident occurred on October 26, 2021 in Rankolee clan in Foya statutory district.

Tamba Sammie told police investigators that why he was resting in his living room, his wife, Kumba entered in an angry mood and started to beat on him with her two hands, while asking him as to why he didn’t go to their farm for the past four days.

The suspect further told police that she beat on him, his wife later took a spear and rushing to stab him on grounds that he did not respond to her, but that those who were around took the spear away from her, he claimed.

Tamba said while his wife was on her way out of the living room, he took a stick and hit her from the back after, which she fell to the ground and became unconscious.

Police records revealed that the woman was pronounced dead by medical officials assigned in the district.

At the same time, a 15 member coroner jury constituted to examine the body reported that there was foul play in the woman’s death.

The team in its report indicated that the left rib of the deceased was dislocated and that her neck was rotating at all directions which they believed cost of the death of the woman.

Citizens here including human rights groups and local county authorities have since condemned the act, terming it as barbaric.
