Margibi Community Elections Go Peaceful, As Telecom Community Supports National Unity

KAKATA, Margibi County, Liberia– More than Forty communities in this i County are currently conducting peaceful elections, facilitated by the City Council and the Community Services Department here.

One of the Community participating in the ongoing Electoral activities in Kakata is the Telecom Community chaired by Abraham K. Kollie, a young Multimedia Journalist in Liberia.

Journalist Kollie, who served as Election Commission chairman of the Telecom Elections Coordinating Committee which featured Three political parties, expressed the TECC commitment to peace and national unity among residents of the over forty communities in Margibi County’s capital city, Kakata.

In his closing remarks, Journalist Kollie emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the community.

“It is crucial that we promote peace an environment of unity, especially among our young people,” he explained during the election wrap-up.

The election saw participation from Three political parties including the Telecom People Party (TPP), led by Mr. Peter K. Tukon, The Movement for Responsible Change, headed by Tiahquee N. Duncan, and The Movement for Better Change, led by Mr. Ayeh Dinah.

According to Journalist Kollie, Out of 449 registered voters, a total of 305 votes were cast, with 11 votes deemed invalid.

He maintained that Mr. Tukon and the TPP emerged victorious, gathering 161 votes, while the Movement for Responsible Change received 86 votes, and the Movement for Better Change claimed 47 votes. Mr. Kollie in consultation with the Kakata City Council and the Community Services Department officially declared Mr. Tukon the winner of the Telecom Community elections in Kakata.

“We want to adknoladged the full participation of the Telecom Community residents for the confidence reposed in us to steer the affairs of this year Electoral activities within our Community, My team and I are grateful as we continue to maintain the peace of our beloved County and country,” Journalist Kollie maintained.

Speaking further, up Mr. Mulbah Howard, head of the community services department, praised the cooperation among community residents and urged the Margibi Legislative Caucus to support future community elections, emphasizing their potential to enhance national election processes.

Mr. Howard also called on the newly elected officials of the Telecom People Party to prioritize community reconciliation, particularly among supporters of all three political parties, to foster harmony in the region.

The Telecom Community is one of the largest population centers in Margibi County’s capital city, Kakata, making the outcomes of these elections particularly significant for the area’s governance and future development.
