In Pres. Joe Boakai’s Latest Nominations/Appointments
By Our Staff Writer
Present and past figures at the top of the leadership of the now ruling Unity Party of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai are not being left out of occupying top, lucrative government positions less than three weeks after the new Liberian leader was sworn into office as this West African country’s 26th President.
Earlier it was the UP’s Secretary General Amos Tweh who was appointed Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refinin Company (LPRC), where he has since taken office. Yet, he remains actively in place as the head of the party’s secretariat and its chief spokesman,
Now, in his latest batch of nominations and appointments released today, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 by the Executive Mansion, the name of others senior executives of the Unity Party Alliance have surfaced for top posts in government—Mohammed (Mo) Ali, Jacob Smith and Daniel Sandoe.
President Joe Boakai
Mo Ali has been named Managing Director designate of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Jacob Smith goes to the LPRC as Deputy Managing Director for Administration, while Daniel Sando becomes Deputy Information Minister for Technical Services designate.
Like previous lists of nominees and appointees in the new UP government, more former officials in the administration of ex-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf continue to surfaced on the list, with some in the same positions they held during the first UP regime.
One of them is Julius Sele, who gets back his position as Executive Director, Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE)
Weah-era Propagandist named to head state broadcaster, LBS
The vocal popular propagandist and political commentator, Eugene Fahngon has been named by President Boakai as Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS).
Fahngon, who first came to prominence several years ago when he launched a propaganda for Benoni Urey and his opposition All Liberian Party (ALO) on Love FM and Voice FM in the run up to the 2017 elections, branded all other political actors (including the then ruling UP) as members of the notorious:”cartel” who had kept Liberians backward for many, many decades.
Fallen off with his former political benefactor, Benoni Urey later, Fahngon later got hired by former President George Weah’s CDC party where he made his name on the propaganda train in the lead up to the October 2017 election, winning the favour of the man who soon became Weah’s Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill.
Thus, he was made Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs and he used his “tough talking” style to propel CDC government’s propaganda, until he that relationship crumbled with his removal from that regime few years ago,
Later, the incoming LBS Director General went into bed with the then ruling Unity Party, using the pro-UP radio, Spoon FM and Spoon TV as one of its lead host of shows rallying support for the Boakai ticket in the lead up to the October 10, 2023 presidential and legialative elections. His roll intensified during the November 14, 2023 presidential runoff election and to date.
