Monrovia, Liberia – The Acting Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Mr. J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to strengthening Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector as a driver of food security, job creation, and inclusive economic growth.
In his New Year message to the people of Liberia, Mr. Saygbe described 2025 as a year of institutional reset and reform, during which NaFAA restored stability, discipline, and professionalism while strengthening governance systems, financial controls, and service delivery.
The Acting Director General expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the appointment carries both honor and responsibility to serve the Liberian people with integrity and patriotism.
Mr. Saygbe highlighted major achievements in staff welfare, including the introduction of comprehensive health insurance for NaFAA employees and their immediate families, life insurance coverage for sea-going fisheries observers, and the provision of organized staff transportation to improve punctuality, morale, and productivity.
“These achievements reflect our belief that institutional performance begins with caring for the people entrusted with the mandate,” he said.
He further disclosed that NaFAA made significant progress in financial and statutory compliance, digital transformation, and fisheries governance reforms, while advancing investments in infrastructure, aquaculture development, value addition, and market access to reposition the sector toward competitiveness and industrial growth.
According to Mr. Saygbe, the Authority also strengthened fisheries monitoring and transparency, expanded support to artisanal fishers and women in fisheries-related livelihoods, and introduced climate-smart technologies to enhance safety and sustainability across coastal and inland communities.
He acknowledged the crucial role of the NaFAA Board of Directors, whose guidance and oversight, he said, have been instrumental in restoring institutional stability and public confidence.
Looking ahead, Mr. Saygbe described 2026 as a year of acceleration, promising scaled-up investments, stronger partnerships, and expanded impact across the fisheries and aquaculture value chain.
He assured fisherfolk, fish farmers, development partners, and the Liberian public that NaFAA remains committed to delivering results with professionalism and accountability.
Mr. Saygbe concluded by wishing all Liberians a prosperous New Year and reaffirming NaFAA’s dedication to protecting marine resources and promoting shared national prosperity, says a NaFAA press release signed by its Director of Communications and Media Services, Lewis E.B. Konoe.
