NaFAA Boss On Assessment Tour Of Northeatern And Southeastern Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – The Acting Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Mr. J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., is leading a high-level delegation on an official assessment tour of of Liberia, a NaFAA press release said on Sudnday, December 14, 1015.

The tour takes the NaFAA officials to Nimba County and the southeastern counties of Maryland, Grand Kru, and Sinoe, aimed at strengthening fisheries governance, advancing aquaculture development, and deepening stakeholder engagement across Liberia.

The multi-county tour officially commenced on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Nimba County, where Mr. Saygbe and his team are visiting the proposed aquaculture site in Flompa and engaging fish farmers in Sanniquellie to assess opportunities, challenges, and investment prospects within the aquaculture subsector. The proposed aquaculture facility in Sanniquellie is expected to be constructed under the OPEC Fund–supported Fisheries Project.

On Monday, December 15, 2025, the delegation will travel from Nimba County to Harper, Maryland County. While in Harper, the team will pay courtesy visits to county authorities, inspect the proposed fish landing site, and visit the location earmarked for the construction of a NaFAA Regional Office. The proposed regional office will be financed by the World Bank through the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP), currently being implemented by NaFAA.

Activities on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, will include engagements with fishermen and fishmongers in Harper, discussions with the administration of Tubman University, and a visit to the Conservation International project site in Fishtown, Maryland County, to explore synergies in fisheries conservation and community-based management.

The tour continues on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Grand Kru County, with stakeholder engagements in Sasstown and Grand Cess. Planned activities include meetings with fishermen and fishmongers, engagements with the Core Management Association (CMA) in Grand Cess, and inspection of the proposed fish landing site in Grand Cess.

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, Mr. Saygbe and his delegation will arrive in Greenville, Sinoe County, where they will meet with fishermen and fishmongers, hold discussions with Cereath Development on the formation of a Core Management Association (CMA) in Sinoe, and visit the UNDP-supported fish landing site facility in Greenville.

The delegation is expected to return to Monrovia on Friday, December 19, 2025, marking the conclusion of the comprehensive regional tour.

The visit underscores NaFAA’s strong commitment to inclusive stakeholder engagement, decentralized fisheries management, and the sustainable development of Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, in line with national development priorities and international best practices.
