A nationwide assessment of Archival facilities around Liberia begins this weekend, the Director General of the Center for National Documents and Records Agency (CNDRA) has said.
Mr. C. Neileh Daitouah said the purpose of the assessment visit, which begins on Friday, is to assess Outstation Registries challenges.
He said he will also be soliciting the requisite funding from both central government and the National Legislature to save the Agency substructure from going down the drain.
The first leg of the nationwide tour will see some senior officials of the Agency visiting CNDRA Outstation Registries or facilities in Grand Cape Mount, Carreyburg, Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Sinoe, and Maryland counties between now and April 19, 2018.
The National Archives Director General further explained that the countrywide appraisal tour will start with a visit to the Tubman Center for African Culture (TCAC), located in Robertsport City Grand Cape Mount County which is situated in Western Liberia.
Mr. Daitouah and Team of officials’ will initially asses the ruins of the TCAC building in Robertsport City and take notes for further actions.
Years ago, the Tubman Center for African Culture was built for the purpose of conducting research on African Culture and other information of historical values.
During the pre-war period, students and historians came from Africa and the world to the TCAC for research purposes. But today, this is no longer the case.
The National Archive Center boss emphasized that a comprehensive report will be presented to President George Weah, the 54th Legislature, the Media and Public upon completion of assessment visit across Liberia.
Following his confirmation, CENDRA Director General, Daitouah promised to decentralize and strengthens the services of the entity, especially the issue of National and children libraries, archives center and oral history collection.
He also promise to expand the decentralization of the issuance of marriage certificates around the country.
