Monrovia—Liberia’s House of Representatives has expressed concerns about reports of encroachment across the border into the northwestern Lofa County by some members of the Guinean army.

Due to what is described as alarming security threat posed on Liberia’s sovereignty by a group of Guinean soldiers, the House of Representatives has mandated the heads of the joint security of Liberia to appear before the Plenary of the House to update the Liberian people through their deputies about Guinean army crossing over to Liberia claiming ownership of land in Lofa County.

As the matter claims the concern of the House, Representative Ivar K. Jones of Margibi Country Electoral District #2 says the matter should not be taken lightly, as the actions of Guinean army poses a serious security threat to Liberia. He has therefore, recommended that the joint security of Liberia be made to appear before the body on Thursday, March 12, 2026 to inform the legislature about the current status of the development.

Before the House’s plenary debate on Tuesday, one of several post on the Rural Liberia NEWSROOM online news service by James Kollie Galakpai in the area said: “This situation with the Guineans Army and lac of the Liberian Army in Lofa County is getting serious government need to take serious action. We have invest a lot to develop our county for stupidity to destroy it,”

Rep. Jones added that for Guinea to cross to Liberia with well-armed security personnel, the legislature should probe the matter through the heads of security of the country, and that they should come to acquaint the House of the progress from the joint security.

After the concern raised by the Margibi County’s lawmaker, the House of Representatives, through its Plenary which is the highest decision-making body of the House, made a decision by inviting the joint security of Liberia.

Liberia’s Joint Security is a coalition of law enforcement and defense agencies chaired by the Ministry of Justice that coordinates intelligence, manages national emergencies, and conducts joint patrols to maintain public order.

However, key members of the joint security include the Liberia National Police (LNP), Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Immigration Service (LIS), Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), and National Security Agency(NSA). This means these institutions’ heads will appear before the House through the mandate and request of the body, signalling an effort toward addressing the security threat from Guinea.

On Monday, March 2, 2026, Residents of Lofa County raised an alarm over what they describe as an incursion by armed Guinean soldiers into Liberian territory along the Liberia–Guinea border, which sparked tension in the communities of Vahun and Foya Districts.

It was reported that Guinean soldiers who entered Liberian territory claiming ownership of communities in Vahun and Foya Districts have raised and hoisted their national flag at the Sorlumba Port of Entry in Foya District, Lofa County, which has instilled fear among the locals residing in that parts of Lofa County.

As it was being reported, the Guinean soldiers entered the area to stop sand-mining operations by a stand-mining company called BK Enterprise Inc. on grounds that the Makona River falls within the territory of Guinea, halting the work and seizing equipment belonging to the company.

Based on the pieces of information received by the legislators, they say it is important for the joint security to come before them to be informed about the steps taken so far and how it is being addressed by the security apparatus of Liberia.
