Established in 1956, the Liberian National County Sports Meet is the country’s top knockout sporting tournament. It is organized annually.

The nation’s most prestigious sporting festival, the National County Sports Meet, is set to kick off on Saturday, December 13, with the opening fixtures taking place in the southeastern Liberian city of Harper, Maryland County.

The Martha Tubman Sports Pitch in Harper will serve as the official venue for the tournament’s opening ceremonies and all Group A matches.

Maryland County and Grand Kru County will open this year’s edition of the competition in both kickball and football.

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Jerror Cole Bangalu, hosting the opener in the Southeast reflects the government’s commitment to decentralizing national events and increasing participation across all regions.

On the opening day, one match in each category will be played, while fixtures for Groups B, C, and D will continue on Sunday, December 14.

This Reporter understands that all participating counties have received an initial preparation fund of USD 10,000, with additional financial support provided to the four host counties—Maryland, Grand Bassa, Gbarpolu, and Nimba.

The preliminary rounds of the tournament will be played outside of Montserrrado County from the 13th and end on the 20th of December 2025.

This year’s tournament features football, kickball, and basketball, and will climax on January 18, 2026, at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex.

The theme for the 2024–2025 edition is “Inclusive Development Through Sports.”

Established in 1956, the Liberian National County Sports Meet is the country’s top knockout sporting tournament. It is organized annually by the Ministry of Youth & Sports in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Grand Bassa and Lofa Counties are the defending champions for the kickball and football versions of the tournament.
