Monrovia, Liberia -– More than twenty Liberian journalists have completed a professional training session on the National Fisheries and Investment conference coverage and reporting in preparation for the March 30–31, 2026 Conference scheduled to take place at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County.

The selected journalists were drawn from several prominent Liberian media institutions, including ELBC, LUX FM, Prime FM, Okay FM, and Punch FM. Other institutions include The Local Daily, Women TV, County Diary, DN News TV, Heritage, FrontPage Africa, The Liberian Investigator, Daily Observer, The New Dawn,The Inquirer, among other outlets.

The 2026 National Fisheries Investment Conference, styled “Kpongama,” a Kpelle word meaning “gathering”, will be held under the theme “Unlocking the Blue Horizons: Investing in Liberia’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Future.”

The conference is being organized by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) with support from the World Bank through the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP). Additional support is being provided by other development partners including PROBLUE, the European Union, Orange Liberia, and the OPEC Fund.

The conference is expected to bring together national leaders, international actors of the sector, investors, development partners, technical experts, and representatives of coastal communities to advance Liberia’s blue economy agenda. More than 250 participants are expected to attend.

The event will feature high-level policy dialogues, technical sessions, and a Blue Investment Marketplace aimed at showcasing innovative solutions and investment opportunities across the fisheries and aquaculture value chain.

Speaking during the one-day media orientation, veteran Liberian journalist and university lecturer Frank Sainworla, who served as lead facilitator, urged participating journalists to maintain professionalism while covering national and international conferences.

Mr. Sainworla emphasized that journalists have a responsibility to provide the public with accurate and development-focused information, particularly when reporting on sectors with significant economic potential such as fisheries and aquaculture.

During the training, he delivered presentations on “Understanding Fisheries and Aquaculture: Opportunities and Framing Stories” and “Value Chains in Fisheries and Aquaculture: Identifying Bankable Opportunities.”

He encouraged the journalists to adhere to the principles of responsible journalism while covering the upcoming conference.

Sainworla also urged the participants to begin familiarizing themselves with fisheries policies and regulations ahead of the event in order to enhance the depth and quality of their reporting.

“The public expects a lot from you,” he told the journalists. “During your coverage of the two-day event, you must remain objective and provide the public with clear information on how the development of the fisheries sector can benefit from interventions by local and international investors.”

Also speaking at the media forum, Atty. Alpha Daffae Senkpeni, another facilitator, delivered a presentation on Developmental Journalism and Covering Policy Conferences. He encouraged journalists to focus their reporting on issues that could help attract investment and support the growth of Liberia’s fisheries sector.

The training was part of ongoing preparations for the National Fisheries Investment Conference, which aims to highlight Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture potential while creating opportunities for partnerships, innovation, and sustainable investment in the sector, says a NaFAA press release signed by its Director of Communications and Media Services, Lewis E.B. Konoe.
