The newly inducted President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA), Counselor Tiawan Gongloe has criticized President George Manneh Weah for breaching the Liberian constitution.

Cllr. Gongloe cited the recent bypassing of Senate confirmation but appointing and commissioning Mr. George Patten as Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States of America conformation by the Liberian Senate.

President George Weah commissioned Ambassador Patten on December 29, 2018 as Liberia Ambassador to the United States and later commissioned without the Senate’s import.

The law states that “the President shall nominate and with consent of the Senate, appoint and commission cabinet ministers, deputy and assistant cabinet ministers, ambassadors amongst other officials of government.”

The new legal practitioners’ leader further revealed that under his leadership the LNBA will not sit on fence but serve as general counsel for the Liberian people on all contentious legal issue.

He maintained that the Bar will not be silent adding that they owe a collective duty to the Country as lawyers to provide clarification on legal matters as a way of sustaining the peace and preventing conflict.

Cllr. Gongloe was speaking over the weekend when he and other LNBA officials were inducted at the Paynesville City Hill, outside Monrovia.

Those inducted into office are Counsels, Taiwan Gongloe (President), Sylvester Rennie (Vice President), Bobby Livingstone (Secretary General) and Rachell Yabah-Duobah (Treasure).

The newly inducted LNBA officials are to run the affairs of the Liberia National Bar Association for the next three years in line with the Bar’s constitution.
