No Letup in Rape: Man, 40, In Court For Allegedly Raping 6-Yr-Old Girl

Police in the Lofa Bridge area in Liberia’s western Grand Cape Mount County have arrested, investigated, charged and sent to court a 40-year-old man known as Alihaji Swaray for allegedly raping a girl, age 6.

Defendant Swaray allegedly committed the act on August 21, 2020. He was charged with Statutory Rape, in line with according to Chapter 14 section 14:70 of the revised penal code of Liberia.

Grand Cape Mount name is now changing to Rape County on a dialy basis.

According to police charge sheet, the girl’s mother left her with defendant Swaray while she went to attend funeral in a nearby town. He is said to have taken advantage of the survivor by taking her in his room, where he allegedly penetrated her with his finger.

The police charge sheet said when the mother of the girl returned home, she met her daughter standing near the house looking confused. And when she asked what was happening, the girl told her mother that defendant Swaray allegedly fingered her and this was not his first time.

Defendant Swaray is said to be renting from the survivor’s uncle in a four-bedroom house in which the survivor’s mother also lives.

The suspected rapist is a Sierra Leonean national and he has now been forwarded to court for trial.

Medical examination carried out on the child at the Sinje Health Center has established that the six-year-old girl was indeed penetrated.
