Residents of 540 Block C in FDA community in Monrovia’s Paynesville suburb woke up Sunday morning to a sad news involving the drowning of one-year four month-old baby, whose lifeless body was discovered in a drainage.
The drainage is just few minutes away from the deceased parent’s house and the body of the kid was discovered after a heavy downpour of rain.
This is said to be the second of similar incident in this area in the last few years.
According to some eyewitnesses, the over one-year-old child, Joseph Dorbor met his tragic fate on Sunday morning after his mother, Winifred Akoi brought him to the front porch of their house, leaving him briefly to pick another items from her room. But upon her return, she could not see her son.
Later, a search for the child ensued by members for about two hours, when she was discovered lying dead in the nearby drainage.
At the same time, the bloc leader in the community, Sumoiwu Saway explained that the situation drew his attention when he was informed by one of his community members where he quickly contacted the Liberian National Police Mount Barclay detachment through an officer.
Mr. Saway attributed the death of the one-year four months old kid was as a result of the two days of rain that caused flooding in the yard.
“We saw the body lying in the drainage and that’s how I decided to carry the complaint to the police deport which is the Mount Barclay police deport and they send one of their officers to come and examine the body” he noted.
“It was so shocking to me this morning. just imagine one year four months old to just get drowned like that, I mean the situation is disheartening and the community is in tears,” Mr. Saway added.
Meanwhile, The Liberia National Police officer later ordered the family to carry on burial of the child, after 15-member coroner jury setup to examine the child’s remains concluded that there was no foul play.
