Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged one of its officers and is sending him to court for shooting to death a juvenile at the Rehab community in Monrovia’s Paynesville suburb.
The LNP says it has wrapped up its investigation into the tragic shooting and consequent death of a fifteen-year-old boy at ELWA, leading to the charging of Officer, Ismeal Trawally in connection with the incident.
At a news conference in Monrovia this week, Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman communicated the outcomes of the investigation to the public.
He elucidated that the LNP endorses the recommendations put forward by the Professional Standards division.
These suggestions involve the termination of Officer Talawally, his handover to the Criminal Investigation Division, and further legal proceedings against him.
During the conference, Inspector General Colman underscored the fact that Officer Talawally had misused his firearm, contributing to the unfortunate event on July 1, 2024.
The decision to pursue prosecution highlights the seriousness of the LNP’s stance on such an egregious breach of protocol within their ranks.
Meanwhile, officer Trawally has been charged with Negligence homicide and forwarded to court for further prosecution.
