Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue says one armed robber was on Sunday killed in a shootout with police in the Brewerville community on the outskirts of Monrovia.

A police officer, he said, was also hit during the fire exchange. With the exception of the one killed, all of the accomplices ran away, the police chief disclosed.

Col. Sudue was addressing a news conference Sunday at the Liberia National Police (LNP) headquarters in Monrovia where the corpse of the yet to be identified alleged armed robber was on display.

He said police had responded to an SOS call from some residents of a particular house that they were under an armed robbery attack.

Upon police arrival, he said, the suspected robbers began firing shots, subsequently resulting into a fire exchange between them and police, at which time the armed man died and one of their men was hit by the robbers, the police boss narrated..

He said police was closing in on “two other suspects, who have already been identified, as the gun battle took place in close range”.  He said after they took the phone of the robber who died in the shooting, one of his (dead) colleagues called and threatened threatening that if we killed him, they would return and killed everyone.

That caller, he said, has already been identified by photo and is also being pursued.

Sudue assured that the LNP will work around the clock in ensuring that citizens are safe and protected in their respective communities.

The killing of the armed robber in Brewerville brings to two, the number of them killed by police in less than a week, after the gunning down of another recently in the Bilima community on the Bushrod Island.

This is a Monrovia suburb.
