Just days after he attending ceremony marking former Vice President Joseph Boakai;s naming of his running mate at the main ruling Unity Party headquarters on Broad Street in Monrovia, Post and Telecommunications Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah has been sacked by President George Manneh Weah.

Cllr. Kruah, who is Chairman of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) of Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson, was bitterly criticized by stalwarts of President Weah’s ruling Coalition for Democratic Change questioning his loyalty to the government.

Until recently, the former Liberian warlord and now Senator, Johnson, who is facing US sanction, was a close ally of President Weah and his ruling CDC but the marriage has been broken and Johnson is now backing Boakai’s presidential bid.

Former Vice President Boakai last Friday named the new political leader of the MDR, Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Koung as his running mate in the upcoming October 10 presidential election.

But an Executive Mansion press release issued a short while ago today, Monday May 1, 2023 said:

“The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah has nominated Cllr. Worlea-Saywah Dunah as Minister of Post and Telecommunications.Dr. Weah named the accomplished administrator and veteran public servant on Monday, May 1, 2023.

The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate.

The former Nimba County Representative (2006 – 2018) replaces Mr. Cooper W. Kruah who was relieved of his post by the Liberian Chief Executive.”

Minister Kruah’s dismissal came hours after Montserrado County District #8 Representative Acarous Gray strongly condemned his action on state radio, ELBC and called for his dismissal.

The incoming Post and Telecommunications Minister Cllr. Dunah used to be a member of the House of Representatives for Nimba County and an executive of the former ruling Unity Party.
