PRESIDENT BOAKAI KICKS OFF HISTORIC LIBERIA ANNUAL NATIONAL DIASPORA CONFERENCE IN U.S. CAPITAL

Friday, September 26, 2025

Washington, D.C. – His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., today launched the inaugural Liberia Annual National Diaspora Conference in the United States capital, Washington, D.C.

The first of its kind in Liberia’s history, the conference convenes Liberians from across the globe alongside the Government of Liberia to foster dialogue, collaboration, and shared commitment to the nation’s development agenda.

In his 2024 State of the Nation Address, President Boakai pledged to convene an All-Liberian National Diaspora Conference in Washington, D.C. as a platform for global conversation on Liberia’s future and to amplify the roles Liberians at home and abroad can play in advancing national progress.

Today’s gathering marks the fulfillment of that commitment.

President Boakai arrived in Washington following his participation at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he addressed the global body on Liberia’s perspectives on multilateralism, peace, and security, in light of Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

The three-day conference officially opens today and will conclude on Sunday, September 28, with an interactive open-mic town hall session, during which President Boakai will engage directly with members of the Liberian diaspora community.
