Pres Weah names former Anti-graft Advocate, Thomas Doe-Nah as LRA boss

A Harvard educated  Liberian, Mr. Thomas Doe Nah, former head of the a local anti-graft NGO, Center for Transparency and Accountability (CENTAL), has been named by President George Manneh Weah as Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

The Executive Mansion announced his nomination, which is subject to Senate confirmation, Tuesday evening and he replacs Mrs. Elfreda Stewart Tamba, who resigned recently at the end of her tenure.

Mrs. Decontee King-Sackie, who has been acting as LRA boss since Mrs. Tamba’s departure, has been named as Deputy Commissioner General for Technical Services.

Mr. Doe-Nah earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Liberia Business College and had worked with the Liberian Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) and International Bank of Liberia (IB) in various capacities in the past. He also worked for several years at the United States Embassy here in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

Up to his appointment, the incoming LRA boss has been serving as Program Lead at the Carter Center office in Liberia.

The appointment of a new LRA Commissioner General comes at a time that the CDC government is desperate to raise more revenue in a faltering economy.

Before his appointment, Mr. Nah had made some public comments on his Facebook page about the need to take “steps are to transform our economy – to grow our revenues, to excite investors to see Liberia as a destiny of choice.“

Throughout his working life, the LRA Commissioner General designate is known to be hardworking and disciplined, with a keen attention to details.
