A top Liberian lawyer and Presidential aspirant, Cllr. Tiawon Saye Gongloe has welcomed United States Treasury Department’s sanctions on three senior officials of George Weah’s CDC government, saying that President Weah himself risks sanction.

Cllr. Gongloe said President Weah also even risks losing relationship with the US government, if he doesn’t dismiss those corrupt suspended officials of his government.

The former Liberian National Bar Association president added that if president Weah doesn’t immediately dismiss those sanctioned officials of his government, he and others will publicly campaign to prevent the Liberian president’s visit to the United States for the Democracy Summit in December this year.

According to Cllr. Gongloe Washington D.C. has a strong policy against corruption and human rights noting that it is very disgraceful for a Minister of State for presidential affairs, Solicitor General and the National port authority boss to be sanctioned by US government which is the first in the history of the Republic of Liberia.

“Because of corruption, children are out of school, infant mortality are on the increase, maternity mortality are on the rise, no drugs in at various health facilities and schools going children still sitting under dilapidated school buildings”. Cllr Gongloe narrated.

“I was one of those who led the campaign for the sanction against those officials of government because of his stance against corruption “.

The now US sanctioned and suspended Minister of States for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill recently boasted in Bong County about how he is using his stolen money to invest here in Liberia and it is benefiting citizens.

Mr. McGill stated “even if I steal, I’m developing the county and country at large than those who stole and carried abroad.”

The Liberian human rights and presidential aspirant Gongloe noted that the state of the country is worse than when we were experiencing the civil war. He also added that President Weah has been appointing key religious leaders to government positions as a means of silencing critical voices.

Cllr. Gongloe maintained that no democracy exists without disagreement and called on president Weah to desist from his domestic terrorist behavior.

“Change for Hope has created hopelessness and dismay for citizens especially when President Weah has built 48 duplexes opposite the Baptist Seminary on the RIA highway which paved the road for his officials of government to follow his footsteps,” said the prominent Liberian lawyer and rights activist-turned politician.

Meanwhile, Cllr. Gongloe has criticized the passage and signing into law the new LACC Act, specifically section 10.9, which he said is meant to silence or keep corruption under the carpet and the Act also undermines the Freedom of Information Act.

The 2023 presidential hopeful has also lamented that if president Weah is not careful he will be sanctioned because he’s the one promoting corruption.
