-Officials in tenured positions under the spotlight
President George Manneh Weah has given an ultimatum to former officials of the still in possession of government vehicles to turn them in by this Friday.
An Executive Mansion press release on Tuesday said President Weah’s “directive was issue in a Circular dated February 5, 2018 and signed by the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Nathaniel F. McGill.”
The release did not say how many vehicles and who the former Ellen Johnson Sirleaf officials are involved in holding on to government owned vehicles.
But it said those in possession of the vehicles “should submit these vehicles to the General Services Agency (GSA) on or before Friday, February 9, 2018 without delay.”
Ahead of the January 22, 2018 inauguration of the CDC-led government, the former Sirleaf government launched an operation to confiscate vehicles and other government assets from outgoing officials, most of whom were reluctant to voluntarily give them in.
Some of them are said to have removed the government license plates and markings and since repainted those vehicles.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the directive was issued in an Official Circular
Meanwhile, President Weah appears to be poised to make some changes at various government commissions and agencies, where officials are occupying tenured positions.
But the new Liberian leader cannot make such a move without knowing which one of those officials’ tenures have expired or are yet to expire.
A Circular from the President has directed that all officials of Government occupying tenured positions to submit to the Office of the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs their letters of appointment and Certificate of commissioning on or before Friday, February 9, 2018.
The Circular is said to have been issued on February 5, 2018 which was last Sunday and signed by the Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill.
