GBARNGA, Liberia- The Prison Fellowship Liberia (PFL) in collaboration with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) has officially launched it Legal Aid Clinic in this central city intended to increase access to justice, promote transparency and accountability in the country.
The project is been implemented in Montserrado, Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa and Maryland Counties.
Giving the overview of the project, Kabah M. Trawally, Project Management Consultant of PFL disclosed that the project will also be implemented in other parts of the country.
Prison fellowship’s human rights monitors will visit prisons, police depots and courtrooms in the counties purposely to ascertain cases for speedy adjudication.
Mr. Trawally added that the project is part of the mission of the fellowship in ensuring the maintenance of human rights, access to justice and reduction of prison facilities across the Country.
TFL Project Management Consultant maintained that the fellowship will work with government to ensure that people understand the working of the court.
According to him, by working with the government, the PFL human rights monitors will work closely with the judiciary, the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice in order to obtain accurate data on cases in the court, at the police station and even in the community across the Country.
Officially launching the project in Gbarnga recently, Bong County Superintendent, Esther Y. Walker thanked Prison Fellowship Liberia and partner for their continual support to the Liberian government through the Justice system.
She then assured the prison advocacy group and partner that her office will work with them especially in the human rights and justice sectors in order to have some improvement into the system.
Also, Gbarnga Central Prison Superintendent, Dweh Tarwillie promised to always work with PFL monitors in order to have the prison reduce.
