Monrovia, The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has strongly cautioned actors in government against transforming their institutions into “attack dogs” in the arena of public information dissemination.

Delivering remarks on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the launch of the Open Media House at the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), PUL President Julius Kanubah emphasized the need for a proactive and responsible approach to public communication.

“This initiative by NaFAA shows that, rather than being an attack dog, NaFAA – like some other institutions of government – is proactive and responsible in providing relevant information about its work, achievements, and challenges. Because, if President JNB is noted, for example, for advancing the narrative of not paying attention to ‘barking dogs,’ it is important for actors in government not to transform their institutions into attack dogs,” Kanubah stated.

The PUL President commended NaFAA’s leadership for launching the Open Media House, which aims to provide the media and public with comprehensive updates on programs, achievements, and ongoing initiatives in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Kanubah described the initiative as a laudable step toward transparency and accountability, noting that enhanced access to information builds public trust in governance.

“As the media is the watchdog of society, journalists and media institutions must continue to hold to account actors and institutions exercising public authority, including NaFAA,” he added.

He further stressed that beyond the launch of the Open Media House, journalists should produce quality, factual, and impartial content on the fisheries and aquaculture sector – anchored in fairness, accuracy, impartiality, and responsibility.

In acknowledging NaFAA and its partners for the initiative, the PUL President called for the establishment of strategic partnerships between government institutions and the media in the public interest, a PUL press release said.
