Fraudulent activities are being exercised by persons impersonating UNMIL employees, a press release from the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) said in Monrovia at the weekend.
The release is putting the Liberian public on notice that “these impersonators are selling fake employment contracts for a considerable amount of money in exchange for employment with UNMIL or other UN organisations.”
“Be advised that in the event of employment opportunities with any United Nations entities in Liberia, associated advertisement appear in local daily newspapers and the respective official website.
Furthermore, the United Nations does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process such as application, interview meeting, processing, or training. The United Nations does not concern itself with information on applicants’ bank accounts.
Impersonating a UN official and producing fake documents such as employment contracts is a criminal offense under Liberian law.
The UN emblem is protected international intellectual property, and its unauthorized use is strictly prohibited,” the release said.
However, the UNMIL press release did not say whether any suspect has been arrested so far.
“If you are approached to purchase these documents or participate in such related activities, you are advised to report such immediately to Liberia National Police, UNMIL Security or the UNMIL social media – https://www.facebook.com/UNMissionInLiberia/.,” the UNMIL press release concluded.
