Ensuring That Institutions Offering Nursing & Midwifery Education Meet Required Academic And Professional Standards
VOINJAMA, Lofa County — The Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM) has taken its regulatory and quality assurance mandate to northern Liberia, conducting a two-day accreditation assessment at the Ruth Ramstrand College of Health Sciences from September 14–15, 2026, a LBNM press release said.
The assessment is part of the LBNM’s ongoing nationwide efforts to ensure that institutions offering nursing and midwifery education meet the required academic, professional, institutional, and regulatory standards for preparing competent healthcare professionals.
Upon arrival, the LBNM assessment team began a comprehensive review of the College’s programs, facilities, human resources, academic systems, and clinical training arrangements.
WHAT IS THE LBNM ASSESSING?
The assessment focuses on critical areas that directly influence the quality of nursing and midwifery education, including:
Institutional governance and administration.
Curriculum implementation and academic programs.
Qualifications and capacity of faculty and staff.
Skills laboratory and teaching resources.
Library and learning facilities.
Clinical training opportunities and partnerships.
Student support and welfare systems.
Institutional policies and documentation.
Compliance with LBNM regulatory requirements.
Beyond evaluating compliance, the exercise provides an opportunity for professional dialogue, constructive feedback, and institutional improvement.
For the LBNM, accreditation is more than simply checking boxes.
It is a critical quality-assurance process aimed at ensuring that students entering the nursing and midwifery professions receive the education, practical preparation, ethical foundation, and professional competencies needed to serve patients and communities effectively.
