SOUTH EAST LIBERIA – The age-old deplorable roads leading to Liberia’s Southern region are not getting any better, with some areas turning into ditches while other spots are turning into small creeks.

The south eastern region is one of the most isolated regions in the country  with six counties which include Grand Gedeh ,River Gee, Maryland, Sinoe, Grand Kru  and River Cess—seems so remote due to lack of good road network linking the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

Thick mud making the roads nearly impassable

As a result, prices of basic commodities skyrocket, increasing the hardship of residents of those counties, especially every rainy season which runs from April-October.

Currently the  main route from Ganta, Nimba  to Zwedru Grand Gedeh County is in an deplorable Condition, which is causing economic hardship and has eventually  led to  the  increase in transportation, food items nonfood items, including petroleum products. This is making life very difficult  for those living in the region, especially  those in the low income bracket.

This Reporter has gathered that despite   of maintenance work been carryout on the main road by a leading Chinese Construction Company CHICO. Vehicles using the road are  facing  serious challenges  in term of reaching the destination some make take seven days before reaching their location while others  one month  plus .

The Government of Liberia and the ECOWAS Bank has signed an agreement worth tens of millions of United States dollars  agreement for the pavement of the Southeastern road. How soon relief will come is any body’s guess.

According   to our Correspondent the Grand Basssa to Sinoe  route which is not been use frequently is also said to be in a deplorable Conditions and is accessible to only Motorcycle, thus separating the entire region from others parts of Liberia .

After celebrating 172 years of Independence Liberia, The country is underdeveloped and citizens are yet experience   Quality Health   and   Education ,Good road network, Electricity, among other basic infrastructure. .

Too many Questions have been asked but are unanswered and these question are , what can Liberians Boost off after 172 years of independence  celebration? Where are we heading as a country and people? And who will change Liberia Condition?
