A two-day Islamic training organized by the Liberian Students Union in Saudi Arabia in partnership with the National Muslim Council of Liberia has ended in Monrovia’s Congo Town suburb.
Speaking at the ceremony marking the end of the training during the weekend, a legislative candidate in District Three, Margibi County is encouraging Muslims to unite in order to in favor of their fellow Muslims in order to make the presence felt in the national legislature.
Mr. Felesu Swaray, who is also the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Kofi Annan Institute at the University of Liberia, said it unthinkable that Muslims will contest against one another in this modern age and time when Muslims are wishing to increase their representative in government.
“We shouldn’t be divided in whatever we do because there is division, confusion is bound to occur among us as Muslims,” he said; adding: “we are about to face a critical portion in the country’s history.”
Remarking during the program the Vice Chairman for Administration at the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Mohamed Kanneh, encouraged Muslim females to take advantage of the scholarship programs in Saudi Arabia.
According to him, one of the preconditions for qualification of female students in the scholarship programs in Saudi Arabia, that student must be married to a Muslim.
For his part, the Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Fumba Sheriff, commended the students for relating to council on their activities among the Muslim students in the council.
He expressed the hope that Muslims students of higher institutions of learning in the coordinate their activities and keep the council abreast of their programs.
In remarks, the President of the Liberia Students Union in Saudi Arabia, Swaliho Fahnbuleh, appealed to the Liberian government to begin opening employment avenues for qualified students who graduated colleges in various professional studies in Saudi Arabia.
According to him, several of the students are not learning Islamic studies but some are professional doctors, computers engineers, nurses among others.
The program marking the end of the training was graced by Justice kabineh Janeh, for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, the leadership of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, friends and relatives of the trainees among others
The training, which was held at the headquarters of the National Muslims Council of Liberia was held under the theme: “Holding unto the Rope of Allah.”
