HARPER, Liberia- Maryland County Senator, H. Dan Morais  has called for a complete audit of the County’s administration to give account of monies used since the last County Council Sitting over three years ago.

Sen. Morias, who is also Chairman of the Liberian Senate Committee of Foreign Affairs,  said that the past and present leaderships of the county are under obligation to give a comprehensive report to citizens of the county since the last County Council Sitting since December  1-2,  2015.

Accountability of the past sitting of the county in 2015 must cover projects  and other developments earmarked during the last sitting, in order to a give picture of monies expended to avoid corruptions, Sen. Morias demanded.

Sen. Morais’ assertion comes weeks after a group under the banner Marylanders for Reconciliation and Development appeared spokeon a local media, Cape Rock Radio threatening to protest, if the caucus refuses hold the county sitting on June 10, 2019.

He said the local leadership of the county continue to show projects and developments that money has apportioned for in the past, but they continue to mention the same projects and developments that were earmarked in their reports.

The  Maryland County Senator noted that at the County Council Sitting, the distribution of funding and projects earmarked should be exclusively done by the citizens and overseen by the lawmakers to ensure that it is done in a peaceful and harmonious manner.

He disclosed that in 2018 while in Ghana seeking medical treatment, he gave his support to conduct the county council sitting. But to the contrary, the sitting was not held because Senator J. Gbleh -bo Brown and Superintendent George A. Prowd, put an immediate halt to the sitting.

Sen. Morais stressed the need for the Maryland County Legislative Caucus to be in the position to also give account to people of the county, because they were elected to represent citizens of the county on the national level.

According to him, the people must enjoy the national cake, irrespective of their location.

He said lawmakers of the County must be accountable to their people.

Therefore, he said they need to know how monies from the national government, Maryland Oil palm Plantation (MOPP) and the Cavalla Rubber Corporation (CRC) is managed in Maryland County.

Meanwhile, Sen. Morias has cautioned those who have planned to dprotest in the county on June 12, 2019, to do so within the confines of law.

He aid while it is true that article 17 of the 1986 constitution gives rights every citizen to have a peaceful assembly, they must do so peacefully.
