An independent senatorial candidate in the July 2, 2019 Montserrado County senatorial by-elections, Ms. MacDella Cooper has expressed her opposition to the planned June 7 protest being organized by the group, “Council of Patriots”.

The protest, code named “Save the State”, is being planned to pressure the CDC government of President George Weah to address some key concerns such as bad governance, corruption and the current economic meltdown.

Ms. Cooper, who unsuccessfully ran for president in the 2017 election, said those who are behind may have their motive do not have their children here but instead depending on the ordinary people ‘s children to do their dirty work.

In an interview with Journalists in the Monrovia suburb of Congo Town this week, Ms. Cooper noted that she had seen what demonstrations have caused this country in the past when people were killed and properties destroyed.

She noted that organizers should instead visit President Weah and negotiate the problems they have with the government, rather than taking to the streets causing destruction, injuries and deaths.

Commenting on the much debated salary deduction, the former Political Leader of the Liberia Restoration Party, indicated that although she is in favor of deduction of salaries and benefits of lawmakers, salary slash will not resolve Liberia’s problems.

She explained that there is a need to holistically approach the economic problems and derive solutions to address the country’s problems.

Ms. Cooper disclosed that if elected, her plan is to ensure that clinic is established in each of the 17 districts in Montserrado County. She want to establish training program for women and youths to be equipped with the skills for self employment.
