Senior Liberian ERU Officer Accused Of Police Brutality, But Denies Claim

The senior officer assigned with the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the Liberia National Police, Amos Williams has been linked to police brutality inflicting injuries and causing the stealing of over 10,400 United States Dollars, but he has dismissed the claim.

The alleged victim, Jetur McCarthy, who is the General Manager of the Jet Transport and Real Estate Company, narrated that the incident started at the Camp David Entertainment Center located in Brewerville, where he had gone to entertain his wife and her sister, who are on a visit from the United States.

McCarthy explained that when he decided to calm down the conflict between his wife and the officer, surprisingly, the officer took a glass bottle of beer and broke it on his head.

According to him, officer Williams then ordered a group of boys   to beat

When some of the onlookers intervened and stopped him and his boy, he (McCarthy) decided to take his car and leave because he was bleeding profusely.

“But, Officer Williams also jumped in another fight with the group of men and began chasing until he also hit my car,” he narrated

So, he stopped his car on the road and fled into the bush in order to avoid been attacked by Officer Williams and his men; but, when he returned to the car, 10,000 United States Dollars in the car was stolen.

However, according to Police officer Williams, the incident started when the wife of the victim broke the glass door and he went to inquire, the women splashed the beer she was drinking on him and this is how the confusion started.

Asked about the missing money, he replied that McCarthy fled and abandoned his car on the road and as such he and the boys cannot be responsible the stolen money.
