SPORTS: How Zaweakumu Clan Won Independence Day Celebration Tournament

As many Liberians celebrated the July 26 Independence Day, citizens of Bong County, District # 7 in Fuamah District haZaweakumu Cland a good deal of sporting fireworks and side attraction.

The 175th Independence Day Celebration tournament brought together five clans along with Fuamah District motorcyclists in a football version.

It also brought together hundreds of citizens in observance of the day this country became Africa’s first black independent republic on July 26, 1847.

This year’s tournament was under the watchful eyes of the Friends Of Hon. Joseph Papa Kolleh with sponsorship from the District # 7 Lawmaker, Bong County Rep. Joseph Papa Kolleh.

The theme for this year tournament was ” Mantining Peace And Reconciliation Among Citizens Of District  # 7 ,Bong County”.

The tournament, which kickoff on 21 July at the famous Bong Mines Sports Pitch in Bong County, featured Zaweakumu clan, Dobli clan, Yarbaryon clan, Zulo clan, Lorla clan, and Fuamah district motorcyclists.

In the grand final on Tuesday, 26 July at the Bong Mines Sports Pitch in Fumah District. Zaweakumu Clan won a convincing 2-0 win over Zuo Clan to win the championship.

On the 25 July Zaweakumu Clan humiliated Fumah District Motorcyclists 7-1 to book their space for the grand final, while Zulo Clan won Doblin Clan 4-3 in penalties shootout after a 1-out draw to a ticket to the grandfinal.

The tournament brought together hundreds of citizens and residents together in observance of Liberia independence day celebrations in Bong mines.

Zaweakumu Clan earned LD 15,000.00 as winner while Zulo Clan received a cash prize of LD 10,000.00 as runner-up.

Each team received a set of Jersey along with LD$4,000.00LD as transportation fees and two bags of rice before the start of the tournament.

And moreover an amount of LD$3,000.00 given to each of team at the end of the tournament as a token for participation.

The tournament was the first of its kind to be held by the group in Fuamah District, Bong County.
