SPORTS: Margibi 2023 District League Gets Big Boost

Ahead Of The Grand Final Set 5 November In Kakata

 KAKATA, Liberia- The second most traditional festival in Margibi County, the Margibi Inter-District League will climax on Sunday, 5 November at the opened-air Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County.

This year’s edition marks the third for such most prestigious tournament to be held in the county.

The Margibi Inter District League is under the auspices of the Margibi Sports Association (MSA) with sponsorship from Margibi County Senator-Elect Hon. Nathaniel Farlo McGill.

Margibi County has five electorial Districts, but this year’s edition saw six Districts competing in the Kickball and football versions of the tournament with the tournament officially kicking off on 21 September at the famous Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County.

On Sunday,5 November in the grand final at the opened-air Nancy B Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata Margibi County, District 1 and District 3 fight for the championship in the Kickball category while in football District 3 and District 6 wrestle for the Championship in the football category.

In the Kickball category District one defeated District two 4 homes run to 3 to advance to the final while District three defeated District six 5 homes run to 3 to book a ticket to the grand final of the competition.

As for the football category District 6 humiliated District 2 (4-1) on to gain a final slot while District 3 defeated District 5 (2-1) to book a ride to the grand final.

In kickball it will be District 3 first ever final while it will be District 1 second final in a row in the Kickball category while in football it will be District 3 third into the grand final while on the other hand it will be District 6 second time to the grand final of the competition.

This year’s District League final in the football category is a repeat of the 2021 Margibi Inter District League Grand final where District 3 and District 6 rub shoulder with District 3 clinching the Championship for the first with District 3 winning in penalty shootouts to win the first District League trophy after a both teams played to a draw during the full-time.

At the same time this year’s edition will for the first time of such competition to have an individual sponsorship to have winner pockets handsome cash prizes, medals and trophies.

This year’s edition marks the first of its kind that no fees for registration was attached to a single district.

In terms of sponsorship Margibi County Sentor- Elect vows to smash out LD $ 240, 000.000 (Two Hundreds-Forty Thousand Liberian Dollars) for winners in various categories.

The winner in the kickball category walks away with medals, trophy and a cash prize of LD 50,000.00 while runner-up earns medal and cash prize of LD$40,000.00 with no trophy.

 

As for the football category the winner walks away with a giant size trophy, medals and a cash prize of LD 100,000.00 while runner-up earns medals and a cash prize of LD 50,000.000

In other development, the grand final of the Margibi Inter District League will several prominent citizens, Company and moreover members of the Margibi County Legislative Caucus been given a certificate of honor for their numerous support given during the most prestigious competition.

Those to be honor include dputy Minister at the Ministry of Youth & Sports G.  Andy Quamie, Senator James Emmanuel Nuquay, Senator- Elect Nathaniel Farlo McGill, Hon Ivar K. Jones of District 2 , Hon. Ellen Attoh-Wreh of District 3, Hon . Ben A. Fofana District 4, Hon Clarence G.  Gahr of District 5, Salala Rubber Corporation, among others.

District 1 and District 3 are the defending champion in both kickball and football category of thr Margibi Inter District League.
