Phebe Maternal Waiting Home Gets Donation From Liberian Diaspora Women

The All Liberian Diaspora Women Organization (ALDWO) has donated food and non-food items to the Links, Incorporated Phebe Maternal Waiting Home in Suakoko District, Bong County.

The organization presented several bags of 25kg rice, 80 pieces of bedding, and 40 pieces of lappa, respectively.

ALDWO is a Liberian Organization comprising of women from across the United States of America, Europe and other places.

The Maternal Waiting Home facility hosts pregnant women for about seven months before deliveries.

The Executive Director of ALDWO, Gbolo Howard, making the presentation on behalf of the Organization at the waiting home, said the gesture was the organization’s own way of identifying with the facility to address some of the challenges it is faced with.

She indicated that the waiting home was recommended to them by the head of their partner organization for assistance.

ALDWO had a mini fund raiser online and decided to direct funding raised to the facility, in order to enable the leadership there to address some of the needs of the pregnant women and new born babies Executive Director Howard said.

Also speaking, the Administrator of the All Liberian Diaspora Women Organization, Sayondee Kofa said the organization thought it wise to help Liberians back home on grounds that government cannot do everything and can’t reach everywhere.

“So where government falls short we need to step in,” Madam Kofa stated.

She noted that ALDWO’s partners with other existing organizations to implement projects.

For her part, the head of the waiting home, Viola Makor said the facility has helped reduce infant mortality rate and at the same time promoted safe deliveries for pregnant women and their babies.

The certified midwife lauded the leadership and members of ALDWO for the donation.

Madam Makor also used the occasion to call for more support to the facility. Madam Viola Makor disclosed that the facility is in dying need of baby clothes, toothbrushes, fetal doppler, stethoscopes, pampers, baby wipes and baby milks among others.
