Student Carrying A Gun Shoots Female Student Dead In Liberia Cyber-Ed School

The Cyber-Ed Christian School of Excellence has confirmed the death of a tenth grade female student as a result of shooting with a gun on a local campus in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

This is the first school shooting by a student witnessed in a Liberian school in living memory.

“It is with heavy hearts and much despair that we inform you of a tragic incident that occurred at our school” according to a press release on Tuesday, April 13, 2021..

According to sources, on early Tuesday morning a student who is believed to be a 12th grade the same school carried a handgun to school while majority of the students were eating breakfast in designated locations.

The release said the student, whose name is being withheld, slipped away to show off the gun to a friend and accidentally went off. And the age of the student is also not yet known. It’s not yet known where the student got the gun from? How it was taken or from whom? It is also not known whether the gun in question was officially registered.

Currently, Liberia has strict laws on the books regarding small arms and light weapons.

Meanwhile the Liberia National Police has retrieved the gun while the the student who committed the act is currently in Police custody undergoing investigation.

“We will meet with our parents to answer any questions and concerns they have but for the privacy of the students and their families, we are not releasing names at this time. We are currently in touch with the grief counselors and therapists to assist us with comforting and guiding our student body through the grieving process. The release quotes the administration.

Speaking in an interview with Education Minister, said it is confirmed and the ministry and the school will on tomorrow have a meeting at ten for solution.

He wants school authorities to began inspecting students while entering and leaving to avoid such a problem.
