Through A USAID Project: Thousands Of Liberian Youths Getting Skills To Engage With Local Economies

Monrovia- The USAID Youth Advance project is working to provide 21,000 young people with the skills, experience, support and relationships to productively engage with local economies.

The Senior Vice President of the Education Development Center based in the United States, Madam Nancy Devine, who recently ended a five-day visit to Liberia, has expressed satisfaction over the performance of the EDC team in the country

“The project assisting 8,000 youths to transition to employment or start enterprise,” she said; adding: “the program is reaching scale and sustainability by engaging them through system actors, including market actors, youth-led and youth-serving organizations.”.

Madam Devine, who is also the Director of the International Development Division, said her visit has enable her acquaint herself with the youth advance project, held discussion with the Ministers of Education, Youths and Sports and met with key stakeholders in Monrovia.

EDC’s Vice President, Nancy Devine, speaking during an interview Speaking in an interview shortly before departing the country on Tuesday, Madam Devine said the EDC will endeavor to provide the training and necessary skills to young people in order for self-employment and make others marketable on the job market.

The EDC Senior Vice President commended the EDC team in Liberia for their dedication and 60 civil society organizations and institutions partnering with them

She said the EDC has been working in Liberia since 2009 targeting economic self-reliance and resiliency of Liberian youths in targeted areas in Montserrado, Lofa and Grand Bassa Counties.

The EDC is an international nongovernmental organization based in the United States and it is currently operating in 30 countries in various parts throughout the world.
