UNDP Elections Reporting Training To Sharpen Journalists’ Skills

Over 40 Liberian Journalists are benefiting from a two-day elections reporting workshop aimed at advancing their skills ahead of the October 10 national elections.

The training is organized by the National Elections Commission (NEC) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Internews.

The two-day media forum in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County is under the theme, “Objective media reporting contributes to peaceful and credible elections 2023.

In opening remark on Thursday, June 8, 2023, NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Brown-Lansana encouraged Journalists to cultivate accurate information dissimilation in the pending election.

Madam Davidetta Brown-Lansana said responsible journalism is crucial to the success of the 2023 national journalists.

Speaking earlier, UNDP Capacity Strengthening specialist, Zage Ficiposki called on the need for journalists support the peaceful conduct of the election and beyond.

Mr. Ficiiposki indicated that peace is paramount to the existence of Liberia as such, everyone must get involve in maintaining it.

Also speaking, Internews Senior Media Advisor, Jefferson Mansah emphasized the need for media practitioners to formulate ways to build on the democratic gains the country has made since the end of Liberia’s 14-year war.

The Buchanan media workshop is the first of four workshops that seeks to promote objective reporting during the 2023 national election.
