The Final Registration Roll (FRR) is being posted at the thousands of polling stations across Liberia, after the National Elections Commission (NEC) announced the completion of the clean the voter roll on Wednesday.

The announcement was made just less than six days to the scheduled runoff presidential poll.

The clean-up process was done in collaboration with the ECOWAS Technical Team currently in the country.

“With the foregoing, the new Final Registration Roll is now 2,183,268, arrived at as follows:: Former Final Registration Roll (pre-cleaning up) 2,183,629, removal from de-duplication process 274, deletion from records of shared voter Identification Cards 87, total deduction from FRR 361, new FRR (2,183,629 – 361) totals 2,183,268 qualified voters for the run-off,” NEC Chairman Jerome Kormoya told a news conference in Monrovia on Wednesday.

By Thursday morning, copies of the FRR were already posted at many polling centers as far as southeastern Liberia and the capital, Monrovia.

The rapid dispatch of the FRR to remote areas like Grand Gedeh, Sinoe and other parts have been made possible through the provision of helicoptors by the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

Diplomats in Monrovia told www.newspublictrust.com on Thursday that the work of the ECOWAS technical team investigating the FRR have been “very thorough and professional.”

The diplomats spoke of the need for transparency and credibility at every stage of the electoral process and the crucial need for NEC to fully implement the 8 mandates handed down by Liberia’s Supreme Court in its recent opinion.

“There is no perfect election,” one of the diplomats said, while stressing the need for Liberians to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the rule of law to the letter.

The presidential runoff election between incumbent Vice President Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party (UP) and Senator George Weah of the main opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) is slated for December 26, just a day after Christmas.
