Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Friday held a meeting with her successor, President George Manneh Weah at his office in Monrovia, a press release from the Executive Mansion has disclosed.
The meeting comes less than 24 hours after the Ministry of Information dismissed claim by the Chairman of the ruling CDC, Mr. Mublbah Morlu that former President Sirleaf was supporting the planned June 7 protest by the opposition.
Mr. Morlu said his allegation was based on CDC’s intelligence, but former President Sirleaf had not publicly reacted to this up till her meeting with President Weah on Friday.
The release said: “In his continued endeavor to open his administration to diverse views and counsels from a broad-spectrum of the national mosaic, President George Weah today, May 3, 2019, welcomed and hosted his immediate past predecessor, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, at his Foreign Ministry office where both statespersons discussed a range of critical national issues.”
According to the release, former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf paid the Liberian leader a courtesy visit to share perspectives on prevailing developments in the country; how to sustain the gains made over the years and to preserve the democratic space.
President Weah is said to have emphasized his government’s commitment to promoting national development, peace, reconciliation, unity and growth at every sector of the Liberian society.
The Liberian leader assured his predecessor that he would continue regular dialogues with eminent persons as well as ordinary Liberians as a way of ensuring that every citizen’s view is factored in his governance agenda.
The visit of the former President comes two days following a similar courtesy call on President Weah by former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai.
