Says In SONA Today: His CDC Gov’t Has Made “Enormous Progress” In Spite Of Many Challenges

President George Manneh Weah has begun delivering his 6th and final State of the Nation Address to the joint session of the Legislature, vowing to deal with “troublemakers” who would undermine Liberia’s peace, security and stability.
Describing the recent discovery of a large cache of automatic weapons and ammunition by state security forces at the Freeport of Monrovia on a shipping container said to have come from the United States.
“We were all in shock,” the Liberian leader told the Legislature and said that, “this development is a major cause for concern” coming just months to the October 10 elections.
President Weah reported to the Legislature that the Liberia National Police is still investigating with support of international partners, but he did not say how far the investigation has gone.
He spoke of the need to deal with troublemakers in line with the law, declaring that his government will not hesitate to deal with threats against national security.
At the same time, President Weah who is expected to make his second term-bid in the pending election, has again pledged that he remain committed to pledge of conducting free, fair and credible elections.
He expressed optimism that Liberia will pass the test of holding another in a series of peaceful and credible post-war election come October 10 presidential and legislative elections.
Regarding his government’s performance, the international football icon-turned politician said his more than five-year-old government has made “enormous progress, in spite of many challenges, boasting of achieving macroeconomic stability.
The Liberian leader showered praises on international development partners for the confidence reposed in his government through numerous support to various sectors, including support to the National Elections Commission (NEC).
