George Weah’s Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)) says it will reject any attempt by anyone to hijack the electoral process through scheming and filibustering.

The CDC and its collaborating political parties said they will not accept anything less than a timely return to the democratic electoral process.

The party’s warning comes amidst calls by opposition politician, Cllr. Charles Brumskine, asking NEC Chairman, Cllr. Jerome Korkoya and commissioners of the electoral commission to step aside.

The Supreme Court of Liberia ruled in his favor by upholding the writ of prohibition he filed to the high court.

In a statement, the CDC said it foresees Liberia running into what it calls unnecessary crisis if the runoff election is not held to allow the peaceful transition of power as required under the constitution.

Addressing a news conference in Monrovia on Wednesday, the CDC’s campaign spokesman, Professor Ansu Sonnie urged all stakeholders, including NEC to act promptly to put the electoral process back on course.

‘’CDC and its collaborating political parties will not countenance any extra constitutional, undemocratic governance arrangement at the expiration of the current unity party administration,’’ the statement from Weah’s party said.

“We make this call in the interest of the country and for the general good of the people,” the statement added.

CDC and its collaborating parties warned that the constitution of Liberia should not be compromised’’.

At the same time, CDC’s political leader and Montserrado County’s Senator, George Weah, is asking the police to arrest any individual or group of individuals whose intention is to take to the streets and cause trouble.

Senator Weah said some unscrupulous individuals planning to impersonate as partisans of the CDC have hatched a plan to undermine the peace and stability.

Weah said the time has come for the CDC to take state power and no amount of delay will stop its victory.

He told a group of supporters on Wednesday to exercise restraint and be mindful of would-be trouble makers.
