GBARNGA, Liberia- Bong County Police Detachment has charged, arrested two notorious juveniles in this area and sent them to court for alleged theft of property and hindering law enforcement.

The actions, Bong police say, are in contravention to 15.51 and 12.4 of the new Penal Law of Liberia in the Country.

Suspects Samuel David and Morris Gboe were charged and sent to court on August 5, 2022 for allegedly duping a businessman on July 26, 2022 in the County.

In an interview, the Crimes Services Division Commander of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Mr. John Kelenso Flomo said on July 26, police received a complaint from a businessman identified as Samuel B. Mulbah alas Fatboy alleging that suspect Samuel David stole seven thousand United States Dollars ($7,000.00USD) and fifty-eight thousand Liberian Dollars ($58,000.00LD) from him.

According to Commander Flomo,  defendant Samuel B. Mulbah revealed to a team of investigators that on the 25th of July 2022 Suspect David was abandoned on a truck and he (Mulbah) decided to render assistance to him for the night- thus seeking the opportunity to accomplish his devilish mission.

“And we recorded the case and then we went in search of the suspect, as God could have it;  Suspect Samuel David was arrested on August 3, 2022, around the Omega intersection in Monrovia on a motorbike and was arrested by LNP Officers assigned at the Zone Four depot and forwarded back to Gbarnga for investigation,” Flomo said.

Commander Flomo also explained that after the commission of the crime, suspect Samuel David encountered Morris Gboe, another juvenile in Suakoko during his late travel to Monrovia.

The suspect, Commander Flomo continues, was advised by Gboe to sleep for the night since he couldn’t find his aunt he only identified as the “fish seller.”

“During the Police investigation, suspect David said he was able to convince Morris Gboe to follow him in Monrovia on ground that he (David) was going to open a business for Morris. Morris agreed and they left without informing his parents,” Commander John Kelenso  Flomo said in a statement minutes before sending them to court.

One suspect admits

Meanwhile, during Police investigation, suspect David admitted of stealing, but not the total mentioned.

Suspect David stated that “I only took three thousand United States Dollars when the rope on my neck alerted the money in the coat pocket”.

According to him, he did not take the seven thousand United States and fifty-eight thousand Liberian Dollars as insinuated by the defendant.

He revealed that he was able to purchase a motorbike, a new generator for charging, and clothes from three the thousand United States Dollars.

The police arrested the motorbike, generator and confiscated the charging both.

The LNP charged suspect Samuel David with theft of property 15. 51, while Morris Gboe was charged with hindering law enforcement 12. 4 under the penal law of Liberia.

A summary of Section 15.51 of the New Penal code states “Knowingly takes, misappropriates, converts or exercises unauthorized control over, or makes. Knowingly receives, retains or disposes of property of another which has been stolen with the purpose of depriving the owner thereof”.

They are currently being reminded behind bars at the Gbarnga Prison Center awaiting court trial.
