One of the Lawmakers charged, Priscillia Cooper not incarcerated
But Rep. Priscilla Cooper, who was charged along with her colleagues, was last night released to her leaving the others there and she didn’t go to jail.
Details will follow later of how former Speaker of Liberia’s House of Representatives, Cllr. Fonati Koffa and few of his fellow lawmakers appeared in court (Monrovia City Court) at the Temple of Justice earlier today, Saturday, June 8, 2025 and later whisked off to the Monrovia Central Prison.
The five lawmakers were charged with arson, criminal mischief, criminal attempt to commit murder, criminal facilitation and Criminal conspiracy, among others in connection with the December 2024 fire that destroyed the Joint Chambers of the Capitol Building, seat of the Liberian Legislature.
Meanwhile, reports say the Chairman of the main opposition CDC party, Janga Kowo has been arrested by the police. Video from Spoon TV shows Mr. Kowo being picked up among angry crowd of opposition supporter that had gather on the street in Monrovia.
