Two emergency patients have died in Blown Town, Grand Gedeh County in less a week as the result of deplorable road condition enroute to the nearest hospital, which is many miles away.

Blown Town is in electoral District number three in Grand Gedeh County and this area is said to have approximately 2,000 inhabitants

One of the deplorable roads hampering commuters movement

One of the recent deaths in the area is that of a 30-year-old woman who was critically ill and reportedly died due to dehydration over the weekend, because she was unable to sit on motor bike due to her condition.

Many of the roads in the southeast are only accessible by motorbikes locally called “Pehm-pehm” and in most those deplorable spots on the rural road passengers riding the motorbikes often fall off.

Another deplorable road

The deplorable road condition in Southeastern Liberia is said to have gone from bad to worse, thus increasing the economic hardship on inhabitants. The prices of basic commodities and transportation have skyrocketed in addition to causing lives of seriously ill patients some of whom die due to difficulties in reaching heath facilities long distance away.

In March this year, a pregnant woman died from Ploe Statutory District while walking a ten hours only to access the nearest health facility.

Citizens living in Ploe Statutory District are said to be living on different planet due to the harsh condition in which some of the rural dwellers are living.

People in Ploe Statutory District also don’t have access to safe drinking, health center, no roads, schools and people living in that area are different from people living in other parts of the country.
