BARCLAYVILLE, Liberia- The Grand Kru County Education System in the southeastern region is being hit by a corruption scandal.
The Southeastern Regional County Education Officer, Asonic Wollor has given an ultimatum to District education officers in Grand Kru County, Nicholas Droyen Wreh and three others accused to return school fees allegedly collected from schools with immediate effect.
Mr. Wollor is calling on district education officers to refrain from the acts of corruption that has the propensity to undermine the immense efforts and progress the Education Ministry in transforming the education sector across the country.
Corruption is rife in Liberia both in the public and private sectors.
According to the Regional Education Officer for the Southeast, the four district education officers in the County have been accused by the county education officer of financial malpractices and have been engaged into acts that are negatively impacting the county’s education system.
Mr. Wolloh has described the action by the accused district education officers as “corruption, fraud, and misappropriation of public funds,” something he said is against the Ministry of education policy.
The Regional Education Officer for “Region Three,” made the assertions on Monday in an interview with reporters in the Grand Kru County capital, Grandcess.
Meanwhile, the four accused DEOs are yet to make any public statement concerning the allegations made against them by their boss.
