Dear President Donald J. Trump,
On behalf of the Free Liberia Movement and Universal Human Rights International, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to you and Vice President Vance on Independence Day. We commend you for prioritizing an America First agenda, which we believe is the essential starting point for a renewed movement of United America’s Golden Age, which you are eager to share with Canada and Greenland.
Mr. President, an American senior citizen, Rev. Mahn C. Krua Sr. (101 years old) recently observed that justice is the only true guarantee of security, and that truth is the only source of legitimate power. For too long, however, our beloved nation — the global superpower that protects NATO with a staggering $910 billion annual defense budget — has been bankrupt of both justice and truth. Generations of Americans remain crushed by student debt, skyrocketing grocery bills, and systemic injustices, while U.S. policy has too often placed foreign priorities above the needs of our own people. Thank you for having promised America First!
Mr. President, you won because you had the courage to speak the hard truth: America has become, in your words, a “garbage can,” infiltrated by crime, corruption, and an entrenched political class that has hijacked our democracy and for centuries preserved a broken status quo. We share your resolve to confront these harsh realities.
That betrayal of America’s founding promise began on March 4, 1790, with the passage of H.R. 40 — the first Nationality Act — which restricted U.S. citizenship to “white persons,” shattering the American Declaration Of Independence’s sacred TRUTH that all men are created equal.
Most Americans have never been taught about one of our nation’s greatest moments of courage: in 1781, Elizabeth Freeman, an enslaved and illiterate Black woman in Massachusetts, dared to invoke the new Massachusetts Constitution of 1780 to sue for her freedom in the landmark case Brom and Bett v. Ashley. She stood before a white judge and an all-white jury, argued for her God-given rights, won her freedom, was awarded monetary damages, and helped spark a judicial review that ultimately ended slavery in Massachusetts.
Mr. President, in 2025, the descendants of Elizabeth Freeman — along with countless Black patriots from Massachusetts, who gave their lives in the American Revolution — have been left to languish for centuries in exile in the American “garbage can” of West Point, Monrovia, Liberia. You, with your proven America First vision and your bold leadership, have the historic opportunity to unite, heal, and reconcile this divided nation. This proposal was first offered to President Biden, but he chose instead to prioritize the costly liberation of Ukraine while ignoring this free and powerful pathway to heal, reconcile, and reunite the United States. With your courage and commitment to putting America first, you can finally bring these long-forgotten patriots home.
While Americans sleep on the streets, billions of their tax dollars continue to fund foreign wars, house migrants in hotels, and protect the borders of other nations while neglecting our own. The shame of this national failure is evident in places like Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, Comerío in Puerto Rico, and West Point in Monrovia — communities still trapped in poverty and oppression, consequences of centuries-old policies that denied them justice. Yet unknown to most Americans are other “garbage cans” of neglect and destitution in communities across Liberia bearing names like Louisiana, New Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia — settlements founded by Black American citizens whose ties and contributions to this nation predate even the Declaration of Independence. These were Black patriots from Massachusetts whose spilled blood helped secure American freedom before they were forced into exile and colonization under the racist first Nationality Act.
That injustice, written into federal law, canceled the rights of countless Americans of color and launched a legacy of violence and division that persists to this day. These wounds, left untreated, are the greatest threat to the security and prosperity of our divided nation.
Mr. President, your leadership presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fulfill the dream of a true Golden Age for America. Like the Pharaoh who listened to a humble prisoner’s dream to save Egypt, we ask you to listen to the voices of those who have survived the worst injustices of our broken system — those who know what it means to live in “garbage can” conditions, in communities overrun by crime and neglect.
We propose a bold and visionary step: launch a National Innovative Ideas Competition to rally every American — especially those abandoned at the bottom of society — to participate in rebuilding our nation. Much like the 1876 Centennial Exposition celebrated the rebirth of our founding ideals, this competition can ignite a movement of healing, hope, and innovation for all Americans. If we can fund USAID for decades, how about funding this AMERICA’S GOLDEN AGE competition of ideas?
But first, Mr. President, we respectfully urge you to visit and bear witness to those places that have suffered the longest from America’s broken promises:
- Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota
- West Point, Monrovia, Liberia
- Comerío, Puerto Rico
These communities, where Americans have been denied their inalienable rights for centuries, deserve to be seen and heard by their President. No president has ever gone to these places to truly listen — and it is time to change that. You, Mr. President, are the 2nd President presidenterd this opportunity after President Biden. Please consider this opportunity.
As part of that historic reset, we strongly urge you to recognize the birthright U.S. citizenship of all Liberians, as declared in President Monroe’s Treaty of 1821 that established Liberia for “settlement of citizens of the United States of America forever” and Article I of the 1824 Liberian Constitution approved in Washington City:
“All persons born in Liberia are entitled to all privileges enjoyed by citizens of the United States of America.”
Liberia was founded by the United States Agency For Liberated Africans, under the force of the U.S. Navy, purchased with American tax dollars, for the resettlement of U.S. citizens, and supported the U.S. military in both World Wars. Liberians have earned their place in America’s future. Unlike Canada or Greenland, annexing Liberia would cost taxpayers nothing, and an overwhelming majority of Liberians stand ready to support your vision of national healing and unity.
Mr. President, only a truly united America can stand strong and lead the world. As Jesus said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” No weapons or armies can preserve a nation divided by hatred and historic injustice.
By going where no president has gone before — to the bottom of the “garbage can” — you can launch a movement of the United America Golden Age, restore the true ideals of the Declaration of Independence, and begin to heal and reunite this fractured nation.
History is calling, Mr. President. Four years will pass swiftly. Let this term be remembered as the moment you brought all Americans together to finish the work our Founders began: a nation of justice, truth, and unbreakable unity.
Respectfully,
Rev. Torli H. Krua
