A project launched to get citizens actively involved in farming

An agricultural project has been launched in Gbehlay Geh, District, Nimba County  to get citizens actively involved in upland and lowland farming by producing vegetables and other crops.

The Rural Integrated Center for Community Empowerment is carrying out the project in partnership with Arcelor Mittal and it was launched recently in Zualay Town, Nimba County.

The group said the goal of the project is to Consolidate and Expand Household Food Security and Income Generation through Agriculture Intensification.

Madam Renee Gibson, Program Officer of RICCE Giving the overview of the project the program officer of RICCE said the project will engage over 500 farmers in Zor clan, which is part of Arcelor Mittal biodiversity program.

She said this is intended to protect and reduce threats on the East Nimba Nature Reserve through the introduction of sustainable conservation Agriculture.

The local NGO official further said the Consolidating and Expanding Household Food Security and Income generation project is being funded by Arcelor Mittal, while RICCE is serving as an implementing partner.

Meanwhile, Alvin Poure, Arcelor Mittal Environmental Department Manager has lauded community dwellers of Zor clan for their level of understanding in working with RICCE and other organizations under the AML biodiversity program in the county.

According to Mr. Poure, Arcelor Mittal remains supportive in working with farmer groups in Zor Clan.

He made the statement when he represented Arcelor Mittal during the RICCE’s launch of the Consolidating and Expanding Household Food Security and Income generation through Agriculture Intensification project.
