After opening fire, police confirms death of 18-year-old boy

(Last Updated On: )

First the police denied that one person was killed but now the police has confirmed one death, after Liberian police officers reportedly opened fire against civilian demonstrators in the town of Kingsville Number 7 near the 15-Gate outside the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

The victim is identified as 18-year-old Abraham Toomey, who the police said died at the Duside Hospital in Firestone on Tuesday. But earlier reports quoting the boy’s mother and other family members said he died on Monday.

People in the area on Monday blocked the main highway to protest the earlier discovery of the bodies of two children, who had gone missing and few suspects arrested in connection with the alleged ritualistic act had since been released.

Police Spokesman, Moses Carter has neither confirmed or denied that the police used live bullets on the protester. But he said an investigation has been launched into circumstances surrounding the death of Abraham Toomey and the injuries of several other civilians.

According to him, two police officers also sustained injuries during Monday’s incident.
