“Corruption is no longer an exception under this government, it’s the new order,” Johnson declared. “Liberians are dying from hunger and sickness while government officials loot state resources, and President Boakai merely suspends them in the name of appearances,” the CDC Youth Wing Chairman alleged.

The National Teachers’ Association of Liberia (NTAL) and others have opposed tomorrow (July 17) planned protest being organized by Mulbah Morlu’s NGP, STAND and others, but the protest is being heavily backed by the main opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and other groups and individuals at home and abroad.

Organizers of the planned protest have said “enough is enough” of what they say is disrespect for the rule of law by the current regime.

NTAL on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 distanced itself from the pending protest being organized by the Solidarity of Trust for a New Day and others. NTAL says it is a non-political, independent, and professional organization.

The NTAL in a press statement signed by its Secretary General, Dominic Suah, and approved by its President, Mary Nyumah, urged all their members to refrain from associating the NTAL with political protests or activities that are outside the scope of our professional mandate.

But the Youth Wing of the CDC has given in full backing to the protest. Its Chairman, Emmanuel Johnson has told the local media that the protest is necessary and in the interest of the Liberian people about bad governance and lack of respect for the rule of law by the ruling Unity Party government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

“Corruption is no longer an exception under this government, it’s the new order,” Johnson declared. “Liberians are dying from hunger and sickness while government officials loot state resources, and President Boakai merely suspends them in the name of appearances,” the CDC Youth Wing Chairman alleged.

The NTA said its mission is to advocate for the welfare, rights, and professional development of teachers and education workers in Liberia and the promotion of quality, inclusive, and equitable education in all parts of the country.

The NTAL maintained that it believes in constructive dialogue with government and education stakeholders through lawful, peaceful, and professional engagement mechanisms.

The NTAL noted that it  is not a party to the ongoing protest actions or public demonstration(s) organized by STAND or the CDC Youth League because no authorization, verbal or written, has been issued by the National Executive Committee or the National Secretariat of NTAL for teachers or education workers to participate in these events under the NTAL banner.

The association maintained that any teacher or education worker who chooses to attend or support such actions is doing so entirely in their own name and shall bear full responsibility for their actions

The NTAL is therefore urging all teachers and education workers across Liberia to stay committed to their professional responsibilities in schools, classrooms, and communities and uphold the integrity of the teaching profession, refraining from involvement in politically motivated or unapproved mass actions.

The National Teachers’ Association of Liberia calls on all education stakeholders, partners, parents, and the general  public to take note of our position. We remain focused on building a stronger, more professional teaching workforce that advances national development, and not political or civil disobedient.
