Alleged “Motorbike Rogue” Burnt To Death In Kakata, Liberia

KATATA, Liberia- Mob violence/mob justice continues to rear its ugly head in the Liberian society, from the capital, Monrovia to other parts of this West African country.

Now, the latest place for this mob violence culture to surface is Kakata, Margibi County, east of Monrovia.

Angry crowd (commercial motorcyclists) on the night of Sunday, October 3, 2021 allegedly set ablaze a suspected “motorbike rogue” in Matiala Community here. This practice of mob violence has been become entrenched in Liberia amid the upsurge of the culture of violence.

The incident occurred when the deceased who is yet to be identified allegedly stole the motorbike from a motorcyclist on the main Street of Kakata and began to escape with it.

According to bystanders, the deceased in his youthful age then decided to use the road that passes before the famous Konah’s club, not knowing that the motorbike had limited gasoline in its tank.

They added that when he approached the junction of the road, he met some motorcyclists with the bike in his possession but with its Tank empty, noting that the man was immediately set blaze thereby burning him to ashes.

The bystanders further noted that the deceased’s operations’ name in the County or Liberia is “Dangontie”.

Meanwhile, no arrest has been made so far by the Liberia National Police, as those who burnt the alleged thief alive (motorcyclists) still have the stolen motorbike in their possession.
