KAKATA, Liberia- With the current financial crisis in Liberia, the Administration of the Booker T. Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Margibi County has disclosed plan for the establishment of what it describes as the “BWI Enterprise Limited”.
The disclosure was made by the Principal and CEO of the Institution, Atty. Harris Fomba Tarnue at program marking the arrival of over 200 senior students from the 2019 job training/internship program held at Auditorium of the BWI over the weekend.
Atty. Tarnue says the Institution’s Cabinet has approved to establish the BWI Enterprise Limited which will be a self-sustaining section of the Business and Finance department of BWI.
According to him, the BWI Enterprise Limited when established will increase the Administration’s effort to raise internal revenue to support the operation of the Institution.
He revealed that funding support to BWI is fast declining as the result of the economic situation Liberia is confronted with indicating that government funding for the institution is almost becoming zero as it is very slow.
“Because as we speak to you funding support to BWI is fast on the decline because of the economic situation currently faced, government funding is almost becoming zero; very slow to come because we all know what we are faced with right now there is no money in the economic” he lamented.
Mr. Tarnue indicated that the only way BWI can counter this situation is for administration to become innovative and find a way to raise more revenue to continue to sustain the operation of the Institute.
He recounts that his Administration is glad with the support of the International Partners pointing out that a lot is being done to continue with them (Administration) and the National Government to insure that their vision and mission remains alive.
“As the matter of fact all of you are aware of our vision to transform BWI into a module of excellence in TVET in this Country. The Principal said in 2019 his administration had resounding approval from many of its partners that BWI is indeed a module of center of excellence in Liberia and it has been further buttressed by the way the internship students behave.
The Principal meanwhile said they were extremely happy by the report of discipline they received from their (internship) respective places of internship terming it as remarkable and at the same time thanked all internship partners.
